How do I perform a Hard Refresh of a Web Page?

At times a local internet issue may prevent a web page from loading or videos from playing.
Performing a Hard Refresh usually clears this issue by forcing your browser to fetch files from a server rather than trying to use local cache files.

Most PC's: Press and hold Ctrl and then press F5.
Most Apple Machines: Press and hold Shift and then press the Refresh button.

Here is a useful graphic on how to perform a Hard Refresh on various PC's and browsers.

Trouble getting a webpage to load?
There are many reasons this may happen, including local internet outages and hiccups. There are several things to try in order to get a page to load.
1) Try restarting your PC, and router. Do a complete power down and restart.
2) Try clearing your browsers cache/temporary files. Follow your browsers instructions to delete the temporary files. Then close and restart your browser.
3) Try installing a different browser. Install one of the browsers listed above.

4) Clear your routers DNS Cache

Your DNS cache stores the locations (IP addresses) of pages you have recently viewed. If the location of the page changes before the entry in your DNS cache is updated, you will be unable to access the page.

If you are encountering a high number of HTML 404 error codes, you may need to flush your DNS cache. Once you clear your DNS cache, your computer will query name servers for the new DNS information you require.

The methods detailed below allow you to remove old and inaccurate DNS information that may result in 404 errors.

Flushing DNS Cache in Windows® XP, 2000, or Vista®

  1. Open the Start menu.
  2. Go to Run.
    • If you do not see the Run command in Vista, search for "run" in the Search bar.
  3. In the Run text box, type: ipconfig /flushdns
  4. Press Enter or Return, and your cache will be flushed.

Flushing DNS Cache in Windows 8:

1. Press the Windows Logo+R keys together and the Run box will appear.

2. Type in cmd and hit ENTER.

Run Box

3. In the CMD window that you just opened, type in following command:

ipconfig /flushdns

CMD Flush DNS

4. Wait for it to flush the cache.

5. You’re done!

Great! The DNS cache’s been successfully flushed and you should now be able to access any site that you were having issues with.

MacOS®

  1. Go to Applications.
  2. Go to Utilities.
  3. Open the Terminal application.
  4. Type: dscacheutil -flushcache
  5. Press Enter or Return, and your cache will be flushed.
